Pop Songs
3:52
This was the very first song written and its origins date way back to 2003. It’s a parody and commentary on the superficiality and neatly packaged creation of typical pop songs and the music industry itself. We had no personal reason to be jaded, but hey, we’ve all heard ‘Welcome To The Machine’ and ‘Hotel California’ right? Some of the lyrics don’t necessarily match today (“Just get to the record store, so I can get paid”), but the overall theme holds true. The airwaves are still filled with 3 minute contrived drivel written by 17 songwriters (none of whom are the auto-tuned performer).
‘Pop Songs’ is played using Standard Tuning.
The video is beyond low-tech, and yes, kind of lame! But at least you can read the lyrics as the song is playing!
In case you want to just read the lyrics without watching the video…
Pop Songs
My song’ll have a sexy video filled with lotsa’ chicks
Be in the soundtrack to a coupla movie flicks
With a catchy chorus and cool guitar licks
Repeat that title one thousand times, make sure it sticks!
That’s what we really like, that’s what really sells
Jumping just like Pavlov’s dogs to the ringing bells
Pop Songs, pop songs, that’s what we like
Sung by pretty people who lip-sync to a mic
Pop Songs, pop songs, they fly off the shelves
Sung by pretty people who can’t write songs themselves!
Four minute time limit for every single song
Short attention spans, we can’t focus long
Sorry, only two verses, we don’t have much to say
Just get to the record store, so I can get paid!
Every year a new group, always another find
Multi-million dollars from naïve teenage minds
Pop songs, pop songs, that’s what we like
Sung by pretty people who lip-sync to a mic
Pop songs, pop songs, they fly off the shelves
Sung by pretty people who can’t write songs themselves!
Guitar Solo
Pop songs, pop songs, that’s what we like
Sung by pretty people who lip-sync to a mic
Pop songs, pop songs, they fly off the shelves
Sung by pretty people who can’t write songs themselves!
